This recipe comes with a secret antioxidant ingredient not used often – spirulina. A single tablespoon of spirulina contains Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Copper and Iron.

THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT
To get the right consistency you have to have the right equipment. If you have been trying to become a pro at smoothie bowls for a while now and just can’t figure it out. – I’m going to tell you our secret. – I was in the same boat as you. I initially thought I just needed a blender with a tamper but that’s not it. It’s all about the blender AND the tamper.
To get the right consistency you need a blender that will not fry on you because smoothie bowls are THICK and really put a blender to work. I originally bought a Ninja blender when I first got into smoothies and it worked wonderfully for smoothies. Then, I started making smoothie bowls and it fried WHILE I WAS MAKING MY FIRST SMOOTHIE BOWL. There was a spark, smoke – the whole shabang. It was scary (haha)!
So, I did some experimenting and learned MUST have the right equipment. I kept making smoothies for a while until I knew I was obsessed with this new high raw lifestyle and I upgraded to a Vitamix. It was a very hard decision because Vitamix blenders are NOT cheap. They are an investment but I JUST KNEW I had to buy it. That this blender – dare I say – is going to help me because a better person and IT DID. I’m very glad I bought it! I have had it over 3 years now and have made HUNDREDS of smoothies, smoothie bowls, desserts and so much more in it and it is AMAZZZING! Here is the exact one I got. They are other ones that are fancier and they have ones that are not as “fancy”. Honestly. they are all super fancy but this one was right in the middle and perfect for me. I will say learning to use a Vitamix and starting to make smoothies and smoothie bowls with it has a pretty big learning curve. Well, it did for me! Sun Warrior Protein Powder
Sunwarrior protein powder is used sometimes in my recipes. It’s completely optional. If you are going to use protein then Sunwarrior is the way to go. Sunwarrior is raw vegan protein and the only protein powder that did and does not not hurt my stomach. It enhances flavor and makes your recipes so much better! Most proteins make recipes chalky and just plain not good. NOT THIS ONE! It is also HANDS DOWN the best protein I have ever tasted. It really is! I have the vanilla and chocolate flavor in the collagen building peptides protein.
Frequently Asked Questions for the Summer Berry Smoothie
- Do I have to use bananas in this recipe? You do not have to use bananas but you need a “base” for this smoothie recipe. Bananas are used in this recipe because they blend very well and give smoothies a creamy texture. You can try a thick fruit to replace the bananas such as mango but keep it mind it will alter the taste.
- Do I have to use Coconut Water? No you don’t! Some people don’t that coconut water and that’s ok! It is in this recipe because coconut water is refreshing and replenishes electrolytes so it is perfect for the summer. A alternative is plain ol’ simple water. The coconut water adds a little sweetness to this recipe so if you do choose water it will take away some of that sweetness. So, your options are to use plain water or for sweetness add water and a little bit of honey or agave. It will still be delicious!
- Do I need a Vitamix? For this recipe, a tough Vitamix blender is not necessary. It will blend just fine in any kitchen blender, nutribullet or similar.

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Frozen Blueberries
- 1 tbsp Blue Spirulina
- 4 Frozen *Chopped* Bananas
- .5 Scoop Sunwarrior Tahitian Vanilla Collagen Building Protein Peptides
- ¾ Cup Coconut water
Instructions
- Add coconut water to your blender.
- Add your remaining ingredients to your blender stopping frequently to push ingredients down using your blenders tamper or a utensil.
